How long can it take a rash due to allergic reactions to cats to heal?
My kid’s doctor refuses to run allergy tests. He broke out in a blistery rash that looks like poison ivy, and it lasted a month. We suspected he might be allergic to cats, and was exposed about 12 hours before breaking out, and was around them for 5 days and then once we came home it took a month for him to totally heal despite being on prednisone. Can it take up to a month for a child with eczema to heal from an allergic skin reaction to animals?

Does surgical-grade metal have any metal that might cause common allergic reactions in anyone?
I want to get my ear pierced (cartilage piercing). But I have a history of being allergic to some metals — But I don’t know what! (see other questions where I ask what metals people are typically allergic to).
Does surgical-grade metals like for piercing studs have metals that might cause common metal-allergic reactions?
Can Ol’ Roy dog food cause dogs tohave allergic reactions like itching and chewing theirselves?
The pet store near me said that alot of dogs that eat ol’ roy dog food have been having allergic reactions from it, like chewing theirselves and itching and scratching. My dog is doing the same thing and he said it is the dog food and the dog food company is in big trouble because they are putting dead animals in their food. Is this all true?
How do food addictions and allergies work?
I read that food allergies can become addictions because our bodies craves the food we are allergic to (some, not all obviously) and can lead to the addiction of that food. This is counter intuitive on so many levels lol So maybe I understood incorrectly.
Can someone explain the link between food allergy and addiction? Is this pseudoscience or real? How does it work?
Serious answers only.
Dealing With Allergic Reactions To Pets
Allergic reactions to animals can make a person’s life seem lonely and empty, more so if they have never experienced the joy of owning a pet. However, with the advancements of today’s medicines, a person no longer has to endure a life without the companionship of a dog or a cat.
As long as a person who suffers from allergic reactions to pets knows the limits of their own body, they may be able to deal with both the allergy and the animal at the same time.
Those who have allergic reactions to animals wonder if they can own a pet besides the lonely goldfish who only bubbles every once in awhile. In fact, many people who are allergic to cats still have one.
The truth of the matter is that an allergy to a pet can develop at almost any time. Dander from a pet is the main cause of the allergy.
In order to have one’s cake and pet it too, a person needs to be able to keep certain areas of the house pet free! The doors to the bedroom should be shut. This will allow one to rest without having itchy eyes. Another wise idea is to invest in a HEPA filter.
This will help reduce the amount of allergens in the air and more simply put, is a good idea for anyone who has a pet. And last but certainly not least, is the fact that one should clean their living space frequently. A regular, thorough vacuuming will help people cope with allergic reactions to pets.
Those who suffer from allergic reactions to animals must be aware of what to do in order to make their lives bearable. With their doctor, a regimen of medications can help a person deal with an animal and the allergens that it produces.
Shots are now readily available to keep a person from going into a severe reaction caused by an animal or other allergen. If one does not want to go that route, then various forms of medication are available over the counter.
Living with allergic reactions to pets can be a simple task if one is willing to take the risks. No longer does a person have to roam the pet stores looking for that one special animal. Pets are great companionship for anyone, even those who have allergic reactions to animals.
Loving and living with an animal is one of the greatest things in the world and seeking the proper treatment and free health advice from a doctor can make one’s life much easier.

The Role Of An Allergist
Before starting immunotherapy, the allergist will take a complete medical history. Be sure to tell him or her about every medication you take, prescription and nonprescription, even those you take only occasionally. Report any vitamins, dietary supplements, herbal products, and other alternative therapies you take. Also report every allergy you know of.
If you are a woman, it is essential that you tell your allergist if you are pregnant or have any plans to become pregnant in the foreseeable future. In this case, allergy shots might be better suited for another time. Based on your particular situation, the allergist will tell you your options for treatment of your allergies during pregnancy.
In certain situations, allergy shots can be continued during pregnancy, if it is determined that the potential benefits outweigh the risk of an unlikely, but potentially severe, reaction to one of the shots.
The allergist will prepare a schedule for your allergy shots. It is extremely important that you adhere to this schedule.
At first you will get the shots often, once or twice a week. After about 6-12 months, you will start maintenance therapy, which means a shot about every month or so. Most people continue to take maintenance therapy for 3-5 years.
The allergist will also keep track of your symptoms to see how well the shots are working for you. The only reason to have further skin testing is if the allergy shots are not working and there is concern that you may have developed more allergies.
Immunotherapy, if properly managed, can significantly reduce allergy symptoms. In some people, it greatly reduces the need for allergy medication. These effects become noticeable 6-12 months after starting the therapy. Most people notice continued gradual improvement over the next 2-4 years. By years 3-5, most people are desensitized to their allergen or allergens. Many can stop immunotherapy at that point.
There are several things you can do to increase the success of the therapy. Make a commitment to follow your allergist’s recommendations to the letter.
Follow through with the entire course of treatment recommended. If you stop half way through, the treatment will not work. Continue to avoid the allergens as much as possible. Just because you complete a course of immunotherapy for your allergy to pet dander doesn’t mean you can now go out and get a cat. Immunotherapy is much less likely to work if you do not continue to avoid your allergens.
Allergy shots do not work for all allergens or for all allergic conditions. While they reduce symptoms of allergies such as seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever), indoor allergies such as dust and dust mites, molds and mildews, and animal dander; and stinging insect venoms, they are not effective for food or medication allergies at this time. Generally, they are given only for allergens that are bothersome all year long or for significant portions of each year.
A final factor in your consideration of allergy shots is your patience. If they are to work properly, the shots must be given in a series over time.

How can I use honey to ward off pollen allergies?
I haven’t tried to use honey to make myself immune to pollen because I haven’t been able to find any local honey, and I don’t know how to do it.
First I was told just to eat as much honey as I could and over time my body would get used to the pollen.
Then other people told me about eating honey on a regimine for a year, and even longer.
It’s confusing =/
Does anyone know for sure how I can use honey to get rid of my spring time allergies?
What are Allergy Shots For?
If you have been or are experiencing any of these symptoms: uncontrollable sneezing, stuffy and runny nose, watery and itchy eyes, wheezing, coughing, headache, sometimes loss of smell, and sore throat, then you must be suffering from allergic rhinitis.
Most people who have allergies have a family member who also has allergies. It is passed in your genes. Allergic rhinitis occurs when your immune system overreacts to airborne particles. These particles, called allergens, are normally not harmful but your immune system reacts when it becomes sensitized with the perception that it is a potentially harmful substance. The immune system is your shield against harmful viruses and bacteria yet it may sometimes be over active and react to non-harmful particles. This hypersensitivity to allergens may produce the allergies symptoms mentioned above. Seasonal allergies occur when your allergy symptoms are flare up during the change of seasons or when pollen counts are high. Perennial allergies occur all throughout the year and are usually due to exposure to dust mites, animal dander or cockroach allergen..
Allergies may lead to complications such as sinusitis and ear infections so it is important to take measures to prevent it: cleaning the house to prevent breeding of dust mites and indoor mold; avoiding exposure to pollen by staying indoors when the pollen counts are high; and avoiding exercising outside in the early mornings when the pollen count is at its peak.
Doctors advise that the best treatment would be prevention however if you already have taken preventive measures, there are several treatment options available. There are over-the-counter medications such as Loratidine and Cetirizine that could help you treat your symptoms. There are several prescription medications that your allergist can prescribe to give you relief. Allergy shots are also available for those who have poorly controlled symptoms despite taking medications, or if happens for most of the year, or if you are around to allergens that are unavoidable. Allergen immunotherapy(allergy shots) helps control and reduce your allergic reactions by helping your immune system become less sensitive to the substances you are allergic to.. Through small doses of shots, your body slowly builds up resistance to your allergies without inducing a severe reaction. They do not only treat the symptoms temporarily but also treat the underlying disease. Immunotherapy would reduce the need for expensive medications for years and can provide significant savings in the long run.
